Zhoukoudian Peking Man site

Beijing is a home to hundreds of amazing places to discover like the museum of Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian, a magnificent place that depicts how human ancestors lived and survived in time before the emergence of modern civilization.

Zhoukoudian Peking Man site which attracts millions of visitors each and every year is a super- abundance of archaeological remains dating back 200,000 to 500,000 years.
From the 1921 discovery of some pale fossils led to the full-scale excavation that disclosed cave dwellings, hearths and “ape man” in the following years.

According to scientific research, it shows that Peking man could walk upright and used tools and fire. The site was listed as one of the Fist Key National Cultural Protection Units in 1961 by the State Council and in 1987 it was listed in UNESCO World Heritage List.

How to get there

Bus Route: Take bus no.917 at Tianqiao Bus Station and get off at Zhoukoudian Lukou, then change to Fangshan Bus 38 to Yuan Ren Yi Zhi (Peking Men Site)

Or take the official tour bus at Tiananmen Square to Zhoukoudian

Weather/Best Time to Go

Beijing enjoys four distinctive seasons owning to its humid continental climate, ranging from very warm during the summer: 28ºC to 38ºC (82ºF to 93ºF), to chilly and dry during the winter: -10ºC to 10ºC (14ºF to 50ºF).
