As one of the modern wonders of Beijing, the new CCTV Tower is a skyscraper in the Beijing Central Business District after its building finishing in 2009. It stands at 234 meters tall and has 54 floors .And the new CCTV site construction project mainly consists of the Main Building, the TV Cultural Center and auxiliary comprehensive facilities.
In China, the tower not surprisingly is the home of many TV and Radio station broadcasts, including CCTV 1, CCTV 4 and CCTV 9. It is part of a media park intended to form a landscape of public entertainment, outdoor filming areas, and production studios as an extension of the central green axis of the CBD. Actually, now it has become an attractive tourist sight and an ideal place to have a bird's eye view of the whole city of Beijing.
Unlike traditional towers, the main building is a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections covering 473,000 square meters of floor space, creating an irregular grid on the building's facade with an open center. It is a real structural challenge, especially because it is in a seismic zone.
As a graceful and sturdy sculpture-style edifice, the new CCTV tower can not only represent the new image of Beijing, but also express, in the language of architecture, the importance and the cultural nature of the TV industry. The novelty and feasibility of the structural design will surely push forward the innovation of structural systems and theories of China’s high-rise buildings. Indeed the tower will not only help establish the symbolic image of CCTV, but also turn over a new leaf in the annals of Chinese architecture and design.
