1. By Bus

Tourist Bus

The tourist buses in Xian are operated by the local bus company which will pass through some attatctions like Mt. Huashan, Famen Temple, Bell Tower and etc. They run frequently and cost RMB 1-2 per person depending on the type pf bus.

2. By Taxi

Taxis in Xian are plentiful and you can hail a taxi in the streets and lanes at any time. They are mostly green in color. It is faster than bus and you don't need to wait for a while. The taxi fee info is like the following:

1. RMB 6 or 8 for the first kilometers and RMB 1.5 or 2.4 per additional kilometers based on different types of cars;

2. between 23:00-06:00, the flag-down rate increases to RMB 7 or 9 and then RMB 1.8 or 2.7 for an extra kilometer based on different types of cars;

3. under certain circumstances like waiting in a traffic jam or for the lights to turn green, per 5 minutes will add an additional charge of one kilometers to the passenger fee.

3. By Metro

Xian have planned 6 subway lines to be built and put into running about 2020. Now, 2 lines had completed and in operation.

Route: Houweizhai - Fangzhicheng
First Phase(2009-2013): Houweizhai to Fangzhicheng
Second phase (2013-2016): Houweizhai to Forest Park, Xianyang
Main Stations: Epang Palace, Laodong Road, North Street, Wulukou, Chaoyang Gate, Kangfu Road

Metro Line 2

Route: Xian North Railway Station — Qujiang Int'l Conference and Exhibition Center
First Phase: North Railway Station to the International Conference and Exhibition Center
Second phase (2013-2016): International Conference and Exhibition Center to Weiqu
Main Stations: Longshouyuan, North Street, Bell Tower, Sports Center, Xiaozhai

4. By Bike

Travel Xian, biking is an experience you need to have and it is the most attractive way to get around Xian. In order to provide more convenient service for guests, some youth hostels and hotels in Xian offer bike rental service to travellers by the day or by the hour. With this way, you can have a good chance to discover the local living style in Xian and get relaxed.

Just rent a bike and ride to the Ancient City Wall, you will astonished by the beautiful views along the City Wall.

How to Get to Xian?

1. By Air

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (IATA: XIY) is 13 kilometers to the northeast of Xianyang City and 47 kilometers to the northwest of Xian City. Domestic flights of it are available to Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dunhuang, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Harbin, Hangzhou, Hohhot, Kunming, Lhasa, Lanzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Urumqi, Wuhan, Xiamen, Xining and Zhangjiajie, which all will take no more than 2 hours, International flights are available to Bangkok, Hong Kong, Macau, Seoul as well as Nagoya, Fukuoka, Niigata, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Singapore.

2. By Train

Located in the center of China, Xian boasts a nearly perfect network of railroad to conneted Xian and all major cities in Chian and the trains' speed has been lifted recently to shortening the journey. Every year there are more than 10.5 million passengers taking the 37 trains starting from Xian and 34 trains paasing by Xian to travel, to go home or to do business. There are two railway stations in Xian.

Xian Railway Station: It is located in No.151 Huancheng Bei Lu, Xincheng District, north of the town. There are direct trains to Xian from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hefei, Qingdao and Urumuqi. There is a foreigners ticket office on the second level of the train station which is open from 8.30 -11.30 and 2.30 -5.30.

North Railway Station: It is said to be one of the biggest passenger rail transport stations in Asia after its completion. There are no transit between the subway line 2 and the station which make it easier for travellers to get to downtown. But the trains are only available between Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Wuhan, Changshao, Beijing and Shanghai.

3. By Long-distance Bus

There are five national highways and twelve provincial freeways leading to Xian. And another ten freeways between the urban cities and the districts in the city have been constructed. At present, Xian's Passenger transport is mainly operated by seven large long-distance bus stations.

Xian Bus Station of Shaanxi: Located in No.354, Jiefang, Road, the southwest of Xian Railway Station, it is the largest transportation hub of the City. It provides buses to about 18 cities in China, such as Shanghai, Henan, Sichuan and Shandong.

Xian Coach Station: Located in No. 13, Fengqing Road, Lianhu District, it mainly provide buses between surrounding towns of Xian, such as Huxian, Zhouzhi, Qinzhen and Fengyu.

Sanfuwan Long-Distance Bus Station: Located in No. 353, West Changying Road, it maily operating inter-provincial bus lines. Buses to Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin as well as cities in Zhejiang, Fujian, Henan, Hebei, Hunan, Hubei, Shanxi, Shandong, Ningxia, Gansu, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Sichuan provinces are available here.

East Xian Bus Station: Located in No.103, Middle Changle Road, its buses maily head to the cities and towns in the east and west of Shannxi Province.

West Xian Bus Station: Located in No.92, Zaoyuan Road, it is said to be the lagest and the best equipped coach station in northwest China. It operates buses heading to Xianyang, Baoji, Hanzhong as well as Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai, Guangdong, Sichuan, Henan, Anhui and Shandong provinces.

South Xian Bus Station: Located in Southwest corner of the crossroad between Zhuque Street and South Third Ring Road, its buses maily head to the cities and counties in southern and southeast Shaanxi Province as well as Sichuan, Hubei, and Hunan.

North Xian Bus Station: Located in No.9, West of the 2nd North Ring Road, it provides buses running between Xian and other cities in the north of Shannxi Province.
