How to Get to Mutianyu Great Wall from Beijing Downtown
If visiting Beijing, it is mandatory to see the Great Wall, and if you read travel books or travel brochures or searching online, then Mutianyu is mentioned as the most beautiful section of the wall.

All sections of the wall can be visited without an organized tour. Here are three ways we direct you to get to the Mutianyu Great Wall on your own.
Way 1
By Bus
A: You can take Tour Bus No.936 at Dongzhimen Wai Station (东直门外) to Mutianyu Great Wall. The buses run between 07:00 and 15:00 on every hour, and the last bus runs from Mutianyu Great Wall to Dongzhimen Wai station (东直门外) at 17:30. The bus ticket of a single trip costs 16RMB. As there are many 936 bus branch lines, visitors are suggested to ask the bus driver to make sure the 936 bus they will take is the tour bus to Mutianyu Great Wall.
There is no time table per se, the first bus leaves Dongzhimen at 7:00 and the last bus leaves Mutianyu at 17:30. I'd imagine buses leave every 15-30 minutes from Dongzhimen.
B: Take Bus No.916 or 936 (zhida) at Dongzhimen and get off at Mingzhu Square (Huairou International Conference Center), and take a mini-bus to Mutianyu Great Wall.
C: There are special tourism tour buses running between Beijing downtown and Mutianyu Great Wall. The tourism bus no.6 runs from April 15 to Oct.15, arriving at Mutianyu Great Wall via Hongluo Temple and Yanxi Lake. You can take it at Dong Si Shi Tiao Bridge (the station of bus no.42), Hangtian Bridge, Gongzhufen, Xuanwumen and Heping Street North End. The bus is operated between 06:30 and 08:00. The ticket is 36RMB for the ordinary bus and 45RMB for the air-conditioned bus.
Way 2
By Train
You can take a tourist train at Beijing North Railway Station at 07:10 getting to Mutianyu Great Wall, getting off at Beizhai Railway Station during the National Day Holiday (10.1 – 10.7). Then take a minibus to Mutianyu Great Wall, and get back by taking the tourist train at Beizhai Railway Station at 16:00.
Way 3
Hiring Private Car to Mutianyu Great Wall from downtown
Hiring a private car getting to Mutianyu is also a good choice if you are not travelling on budget and want to avoid the crowded people and traffic. Or if you are travelling with 3 or 4 friends, this way is much more cost-efficient.
