Nightlife in Shichahai Area

"Shichahai" literally means "ten temple lakes", located in the north of Beijing. The area is an ideal destination which consists of three lakes Qianhai, Xihai and Houhai, and used to be part of the old Grand Canal of the Yuan Dynasty 600 years ago. Shichahai becomes one of the popular attractions in Beijing, with the developments of hundreds of years; the area combines different cultures circled by the former palaces of ministers, temples, well-kept Siheyuans as well as residences of celebrities in the past.

Shaichahai area has over 40 sites of historical relic. The Area was first formed in Yuan Dynasty(1206-1368) repesenting Ya’er Hutong and Yandaixie Street i.e. the Tobacco Pipe Lane with most of the buildings showing a typical features of Old Beijing’s tradition architectures. During summer, it a great experience for boating, while in winter, the area becomes a skating rink.

Shichahai area still has the ambience of an ancient city, despite its modern setting. Its lake waters ripple and glitter around the many lotuses floating on its surface. Willows line the bank like a misty green curtain, as a trickle of people cross the 1,000-year-old bridge, becoming the most fastest-growing spot for late night, which seems to be taking over from Sanlitun as the major bar area of Beijing. Neon has become a common sight, and several dance clubs are in the works, but for now this remains the finest place in the city for a quiet drink.
