Hi Robert, based on your travel information, the best itinerary we suggest is Beijing - Xian - Shanghai. Supposing you would arrive in Beijing on 1/5 2015, you can allot: Beijing 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5 and take the overnight train (Z train) to Xian on 4/5. Then spend 5/5 and 6/5 in Xian, and take night flight or overnight D train to Shanghai. It depends on your interests by train or flight. If you book 3 months in advance, you can get the very good pricing on the night flights, even cheaper than the overnight D train, but you need another one night accommodation if you take the flight. 7/5, 5/8 and 5/9 in Shanghai, and you can spend one day to see the city attractions and one day for a side trip to Hangzhou, Suzhou or Wuzhen water town.
