Hi Linda, yes, the high-speed train from Beijing to Chengdu run from January 1, 2015. It leaves at Beijing West 08:35 and arrives at Chengdu East 23:00 daily, taking over 14 hours in total and making 19 stops on the way. It is convenient for ones who need to get to/from these intermediate points rather than the tourists who would like to cover the whole distance. In addition, the tickets costing about 864RMB, 1242RMB and 2672.5RMB for the second-class, first-class and business class, which are usually more than a discounted flight ticket. Sum all, we suggest you take the flight to Chengdu rather than the bullet train.

If you've not been to Xian before, you can also take the high-speed train to Xian firstly and spend one or two days to visit the Terrocatta Warriors, Ancient city wall and more, then take the flight or train to Chengdu from Xian. There are 11 trains in total, you can choose the overnight one so as to save one night's accommodation.
