About:Pingyao
Hi, we have two extra days to have a side trip near Beijing, do you think Luoyang is a better side trip or Pingyao?

Hi Cornel, it really depends what you want to see, as both of them are good where most tourists do not go, but totally different. Pingyao is an ancient town with old walls and preserved historic buildings, and it is more leisurely for two days with the highlights are City walls, Rishengchang Exchange House, County Government Office, Temple of the City God, Ming-Qing Street and Former Residence of Lei Lutai. Luoyang itself is unremarkable, but there are couples of marvelous attractions - half day to Longmen Grottoes, half day to explore the old part of Luoyang, and one day to Shaolin Temple and do hours hiking in Songshan Mountain.
In my personal opinion, I recommend Pingyao old town if you've never been there and leave Luoyang for your next trip to China, as Pingyao has more to see and do.
