Chengdu Transportation: get to & around Chengdu

Chengdu is the science and technology, business, finance, transportation and communication junction in southwestern China. After many years’ effort, Chengdu has successfully formed relatively complete transportation network of urban trunk road, national highway, railway and airlines.

It is convenient whether you get to Chengdu from other cities of China, or you travel in Chengdu area.

How to Get around in Chengdu?

1. By Taxi

Chengdu has approximately 9,000 taxies in kind of Jetta, Santana, Fukang and citron, serving domestic and international visitors. The taxi drivers are said to be “living maps”. They can give helpful suggestions on where to have meal or to have fun in Chengdu.

From 06:00 - 22:00
* RMB 8/9 flag-down for the first 3km
* RMB 1.9 per from 3km to 10km
* RMB 2.85 per from 10km to 60km

From 22:00 - 06:00
* RMB 9 flag-down for the first 3km
* RMB 2.2 from 3km to 10km
* RMB 3.3 per from 10km to 60km

2. By Subway

Chengdu has two subways operating now: subway Line 1 and subway Line 2. There are another 8 subway lines planning now around the city. In the near future, it will be very convenient to the city's major tourist sites by subway.

Subway Line 1:
From Shenxian Lake to Century City via North Railway Station, Tianfu Square, Sichuan Gymnasium, South Railway Station, Ocean Park and other place in the city.

Subway Line 2:
From Chadianzi Bus Station to Chengdu Institute of Public Administration via People's Park, Chun Road, East Railway Station, etc.

3. By Public Bus

Chengdu has many public buses servicing among all tourist destinations. You can easily get to People's Park, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Wuhou Temple and Jinli Ancient Street.

The common public buses charge RMB 1 and buses with air-conditioning charge RMB 2.

4. By Sight-seeing Bus

Chengdu has operated two sight-seeing buses: No.901 and No.902. It is a good choice to take this bus to visit the city.

Route: New South Gate Tourist Distributing Center - Renming Road - Wuhou Memorial Temple - Qingyang Temple - Songxian Bridge - Thatched Cottage of Du Fu - Qingyang Avenue - Jinsha Site
Ticket Price: RMB10 allowing five admissions per day or RMB3 for only one boarding.
First Stop: New South Gate Tourist Distributing Center; operating hours is from 8:30 to 18:00; departing every 30 minutes.
Last Stop: Jinsha Site; operating hours is from 9:45 to 18:30; departing every 30 minutes.

No.902 Sight-seeing Bus

Route: New South Gate Tourist Distributing Center - Yuefu Street - Caoshi Street - Wenshu Workshop - Jiefang Road - East Erxian - Bridge Road - Chenghua Avenue - Longtan Temple - Panda Breeding and Research Center
Ticket Price: RMB2
First Stop: New South Gate Tourist Distributing Center; operating hours is from 8:00 to 16:30 ; departing every 15 minutes.
Last Stop: Panda Breeding and Research Center; operating hours is 9:30 to 18:00; departing every 15 minutes.

How to Get to Chengdu?

Chengdu is located in the southwest part of China. It is the traffic hubs of western China. You can easily get to Chengdu by rlight, by trian and by long-distance bus.

1. By Flight

Chengdu has a Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU), which is located in Shuangliu County of Chengdu, around 16 km southwest to the center of Chengdu city. It is an important aviation hinge and distribution center of passengers and cargo in the southwestern region. There are flights to more than 70 domestic cities and over 20 international cities, such as to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Zhangjiajie, Xian, Lanzhou, Urumqi, Lhasa, Chamdo, Xiamen, Guilin, Kunming, Haikou, etc.; to Hong Kong, Bangkok and other international or regional airlines.

How to get there?

Taxi: Base rate is RMB 8 for the first 3km. 1.9 yuan from per additional kilometer.

Airport shuttle bus:
No.1 runs between Minshan Restaurant and Shuangliu airport;
No.2 runs between Chengdu Railway Station and Shuangliu airport;
No.3 runs between Chengdu East Railway Station and Shuangliu airport;
No.4 runs between Chengdu New Exhibition Center and Shuangliu airport.

2. By Train

At present, Chengdu has four railway stations, and two stations for passenger transport: Chengdu Railway Station, formerly named Chengdu North Railway Station, and Chengdu East Railway Stations. Another two passenger railway stations (west and south) are now under construction and are mainly operating for freight transport.

The station is the city's main station with the largest passenger traffic volume. Most trains depart from this station to other cities of China. There are a lot trains run through here from more than 10 big cities, such as Beijing, Xian, Kunming, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Urumqi, Shangha, Lanzhou, etc. Check and book Beijing – Chengdu trains.

3. By Long-distance Bus

Chengdu has several main bus stations, including Chengdu Bus Station (Wugui Bridge Bus Station), New South Gate Bus Station, Ximen (West Gate) Bus Station, Dongmen (East Gate) Bus Station, Chadianzi Bus Station, Beimen (North Gate) Bus Station, and Gaosuntang Bus Station.

There are 6 national highways intersect in Chengdu: 108 National Highway ( Shanxi - Yunnan), 213 National Highway (Gansu - Kunming), 317 National Highway (Link Tibet), 318 National Highway (Wuhan - Tibet), 319 National Highway (Link Chongqing) and 321 National Highway (Link Guizhou Province).

There are also regular travel buses to Jiuzhaigou - Huanglong, Daocheng, Emei Mountain, Le Shan, Kangding, Dujiangyan, Ziyang, Neijiang, Zigong, Yibing, Deyang, Mianyang, Yaan and other scenic areas.
