1. See the Sichuan Opera

Chengdu is the home of Sichuan opera, which has a tradition dating back more than 250 years. It is another Chinese culture spread across the southeast part of China. The impressive performance and special regional culture make Sichuan Opera be a textbook for visitors to touch Chengdu's history. Sichuan Opera features vivid, humorous narration, singing, and acrobatics. It also boasts a system of stylized movements and its acting in both exquisite and lively.

In the performance, you can see various unique skills: Facing Changing Show which enjoys an international fame for decades; the Hands Shadow Show which only performed by hands rather than actors. No matter where you go, it is a great and fun-filled experience.

2. Have a Special Date with Giant Panda

At present, there are two places for seeing Giant Panda open to visitors in Chengdu region. One is the world-famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, around 10 kilometers away from Chengdu downtown. Here is also education center and international tourism destination. It is the best place for you to meet with Giant Panda.

The other one is Ya'an Bifengxia Giant Panda Breeding Centre, about 150 kilometers southwest to Chengdu. Befengxia has good quality water and air for the growth of pandas.

Bus: at Xinnanmen Bus Station in Chengdu, buses leave every 35 minutes from 07:00 to 19:30.

3. Eat the Sichuan Hot Pot

Besides the famous Chongqing Hot Pot, Chengdu Hot Pot is also a good choice to experience the Chinese cuisine culture.

Hot Pot has become a symbol of Sichuan cuisine style. People love to gather around a table to taste a small pot. The pot may be boiled by various means, such as charcoal, electric or gas. You have a choice of spicy, pure or combo for the soup. There are a great variety of pots, including Yuanyang hotpot (one side is spicy, the other is pure), four tastes hotpot, fish head hotpot, tonic hotpot, entire sheep hotpot, etc.

If you can eat hot food, we highly recommend you to choose hot pot when you travel in Chengdu. Just imagine, use your chopsticks to pick up a meat cooked in the broth, and then, put it into your month with the smell of chili spreads over your month, it is an enjoyable thing more than a meal for living.

4. Drink a Cup of Tea

Drinking tea has become quintessential part of Chengdu locals' daily life. Because of this, Chengdu has formed a special tea culture all its own which attracts visitors from across China and around the world. Visitors to Chengdu will find there are a lot of teahouses scattered throughout the city. Most teahouses cater to tea drinkers, young and old, who come to meet and have a chat about everything ranging from the bride's dowry to a fierce political debate.

Sichuan's tea culture has not only a very long history, but also some unique styles. Whichever tea house you go into, you can appreciate the strong flavor of Chengdu: the bamboo chairs, the square tables, the particular tea sets, the copper teapots and the special skill of filling water of the waiters. And all of these will give you some very deep impression.

On the table, they are three important things. They are the porcelain teacups, porcelain lids and the metal trays. The trays are like the boat, so they are called the tea boat, too. And also they have some advantages: the volume of the teacups is just right, the top is larger and the bottom is smaller.

5. Enjoy the Music Opera – Jinsha

The music opera is a living theatre about love. It tells people that if human lose the fairy stories, and they will miss many mysterious thing in the world. Jinsha (Gold Sand) is performed in the Jinsha museum Theatre which is the first large-scale original musical in China, playing the miracle of ancient Shu culture.

It revives the cultural relics in Jinsha and changes it into a beautiful scene on stage. With a dreamy, 3D animation and high definition audiovisual technology, singing in full of pathos, to represent sad beautiful love last 3,000 years between the ancient Shu princess "Jin (Gold)" and archaeologist "Sha (Sand)". Audience can review faithful love and wake up desire for life in the journey of ancient Jinsha kingdom.

6. Ski on Xiling Snow-capped Mountain

Xiling Snow Mountain is located in the western of Chengdu, around 95 kilometers away from Chengdu downtown. It is famous for largest resort in Western China.

It is not a good place for skiing, but for visiting landscapes such as green mountains, snow-capped plateaus, steep peaks, amazing stones, spectacular waterfalls and exotic wildlife and animals.

7. Join in the Roast Whole Lamb Party in Jiuzhaigou

When you travel in the Jiuzhai Valley, you can take the Campfire Party which is held in this place.

The party is hosted by Tibetan. People put a whole lamb on a rail and then use holder to set it up on the raging fire for roasting. They invite visitors to dance around the campfire. All dances are unique and characteristic in Tibetan area. When you pick up a patch of meet, and taste Tibetan drink – Qingke Wine, you will feel you are in the special ethnic atmosphere among those hospitable people.

8. Ride a Horse in Mt. Siguniang

Mt. Siguning Scenic Spot is located in Changping Valley, western Sichuan Province, around 220 km away from Chengdu. It is a good place to ride the horse. On the bake of a good horse, you will find the lovely side of the nature: the colorful flowers dot the green grassland; the blue sky decorated by the white cloud.
