A hidden gem - in heart of Olympic village

This beautiful park is like a mini-Epcot center. The scenery is amazing (gorgeous gardens, bridges, lotus ponds, waterfalls, etc.) -- as is the view of the Olympics stadium from the upper section of the park. But it's also a wonderful educational excursion. The park has replicas of important/traditional structures from the 56 ethnic tribes of China (as well as some actual buildings moved from their original location to Beijing). Each structure includes a number of exhibits, incl. traditional clothing, ritual and household items, furnishings, etc. -- the replica of the Tibetan temple (real monks actually tend to the altars) was especially neat. There are also a variety of performances each day, and an interesting (albeit a bit dimly lit) museum of Chinese relics and antiques. Didn't see much advertisement for this park, but maybe the advertising will ramp up as we get closer to the 2008 Olympics? The park is just a few blocks from the Olympics stadium.

Wow!

This place is absolutely beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I went in August, and it was wonderful. It wasn't heavily populated, so most of the time it felt like we were the only people there. I would absolutely go again. It costs 90 yuan, but it is worth it. The sights are gorgeous ~ a waterfall, tons of trees and flowers, plus you learn a lot about Chinese history. Do yourself a favor ~ visit this place.
